It comes with all sorts of joys and thrills, as well as stunning losses and crushing sorrows. I’m in the process of rewriting my life, rewiring my thinking, and reweaving who I am. I’ve already destroyed several bad family patterns. What’s left is how I deal with people, stress, bad behavior and time pressures. I don’t want to spend the next 50 (or 5) years limping along toward home plate. I’d rather take a running dive.

This is a largely personal journey. You’re welcome to read along if you’d like.

Running Dive

My hometown shows off a little. Positive Energy is a Renewable Resource
I know what it’s...

Positive Energy is a Renewable Resource

I know what it’s like to be depressed. I know what divorce, grief and the death of loved ones can do to your outlook and psyche. But my default setting is POSITIVE - to see the good in things and the potential and the possibilities. Yet I continue to run into people that don’t know what positivity is nor how to be more positive. To them, a positive frame of mind feels forced and false.

Our attitudes make our realities. Our beliefs shape our outcomes. Look at things from the Half Glass Empty perspective and THE GLASS WILL ALWAYS FEEL EMPTY. Assume the worst and the worst will find a way to become tangible. But be open-minded to a different attitude, and things change. Life changes, for the better. Or at least, for the tolerable.

I wish I could seed the atmosphere with some kind of Possibilities chemical - one that got people to think about how good they have things, even when they’re not great; to appreciate the beauty around them or find beauty in it. A chemical that helped people find the motivation to see things in a brighter perspective, in which anything was possible, and to find the motivation to make that reality happen, rather than bitching, whining, and distracting themselves with activities that perpetuated distance from a better future. I can’t help those who would wallow in negativity and cynicism and sarcasm and self-pity. The desire to change has to come from within.

Seeing this video makes me happy. Everyone in it seems like they’re having fun. Makes me remember that while life can be rough and times can be tough and some days just suck, positive energy makes even sucky days worth living. Enjoy!

My talented daughter Maura and her increasingly recognized band...

My talented daughter Maura and her increasingly recognized band Mixtapes

The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit - love what’s happening in...

The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit - love what’s happening in my home state

THIS is the kind of content I want to create all day long....

THIS is the kind of content I want to create all day long.
colinweaver:

Colin Weaver - Take Me Away (new mix)

So, I’ve applied the skills I’ve been learning to this older song, and it sounds SO much better. I am fucking giddy right now. The last mix was incredibly fucking muddy and just felt watered down. There was only so much I can do, considering how and where this song was originally recorded, but I think this is a huge improvement. You can actually hear what the bass is doing now. You hear the acoustic guitar in your right and the electric in your left. The drums are faded slightly to the left, and the bass is in the same spot in the stereo. I thought they went well together. Now that I actually know how to use a visual equalizer properly, I went through and EQed all the individual tracks. Each one had various assortments of hissing and rattling going on, mostly because I had the pre-amp turned WAY too high when I recorded the tracks. The vocals were tricky, because I recorded them with such a low pre-amp volume. This recording still sounds nowhere near professional, but man, I am much happier with it.
